The shoulder is the most mobile joint in your body, and that is precisely what makes it so vulnerable: it is guided less by bone and more by muscles, tendons, and the joint capsule. That is why shoulder pain has many faces—from a sharp pain when lifting your arm, to a shoulder that aches at night, to a joint that gradually stiffens up. At BodyLab in Zurich Altstetten, we will work with you to find out exactly what is causing your shoulder pain and treat it with a targeted approach: combining physiotherapy, osteopathy, and training all under one roof.

Other challenges we conquer and treat
Rotator Cuff
The muscle group that guides and stabilizes your shoulder joint can become irritated or even suffer a tendon tear. If you suspect a tear—perhaps after a fall that leaves you with a sudden loss of strength—getting a professional medical evaluation is your first step to a strong recovery. Whether you choose conservative rehab or need post-surgery support, we'll be right by your side to guide you back to peak performance.
Regain your strength: Post-dislocation stability
After a shoulder dislocation—often a setback in sports—your joint needs targeted muscle building to regain its peak stability and power.
Radiating pain from the cervical spine
Not all shoulder pain originates in the shoulder. Tension and irritated nerve roots in the neck can radiate all the way down into your shoulder and arm. We'll pinpoint the exact cause during your assessment. Learn more on our page about neck pain.
How we conquer shoulder pain
Every great recovery begins with a thorough assessment: we analyze how your shoulder moves, identify where strength is lacking, and pinpoint what triggers the pain. From this, we design your custom treatment plan. Depending on your goals, we combine:
Physical Therapy and Sports Physical Therapy: active exercises, load management, and manual therapy, featuring targeted techniques for joints and muscles.
Osteopathy: explores connections beyond the shoulder, such as the thoracic spine and ribs, which support your shoulder's movement. Available directly without a doctor's referral.
Dry Needling: fine needles release myofascial trigger points—tight muscle spots that can radiate pain into the shoulder and arm.
Massage: releases muscular tension around the shoulder and neck, perfectly complementing your active therapy.
Training: Strength is the ultimate long-term insurance for your shoulders. Train in our own, functionally equipped gym space right inside the clinic—with the option of Medical Training Therapy (MTT), one of our premier training programs.
When to consult your doctor
Shoulder pain is rarely dangerous. However, you should seek immediate medical evaluation if you experience any of these signs:
A fall or accident resulting in a significant loss of strength or a visible deformity: a possible tendon tear or dislocated shoulder, both of which require immediate medical assessment.
A fever accompanied by a hot, swollen joint: a potential sign of a joint infection.
Numbness, tingling, or paralysis in your arm or hand: nerves may be involved.
These signs are rare. If none of them apply to you, nothing is holding you back from starting your treatment with us.
In all other cases, you can jump right in with us. If we spot anything in your results that needs a medical eye, we’ll be completely upfront and connect you directly with your doctor.
Who covers the cost? Let's talk investment in your future.
Physiotherapy is fully covered by your basic health insurance with a doctor's referral, and by accident insurance or your health insurance's accident coverage after an injury.
You can book osteopathy directly without a referral; it is covered through your supplementary insurance for alternative and complementary medicine.
Whether you choose physiotherapy or osteopathy: you are always welcome as a self-paying client, with no compromise on treatment quality or time. To find out what your treatment will cost, visit Rates and Coverage.
No, not at all: you can book your osteopathy session directly, no prescription required—covered by your supplementary insurance or self-funded. For physiotherapy covered by basic insurance, you'll just need a doctor's referral. Always check with a doctor first if you experience warning signs like a loss of strength after an accident.
