Knee pain: is it injured, pushed to the limit, or worn down?

Knee pain: is it injured, pushed to the limit, or worn down?

Knee pain has many faces: that sudden moment during sports, gradual overloading, or wear and tear over the years. This is why the path to recovery is different for everyone. At BodyLab in Zurich Altstetten, you don't have to figure out which therapy you need on your own: we will assess your knee together and find the perfect starting point that truly works for you.

Knee pain: How did you conquer your last challenge?

The most important question actually comes from your knee itself. There are three typical paths that lead to knee pain, and each one demands a different, targeted starting point.

Unsure what's going on with your knee? Let's figure it out.

Wondering what to do about knee pain that is hard to pin down? You don't have to figure it out on your own. During your assessment, we will evaluate your knee's mobility, strength, stability, and load capacity to pinpoint the issue—collaborating with your doctor whenever needed. If you experience warning signs like severe swelling, a locked joint, fever, or if the pain is the result of an accident, a medical evaluation is your essential first step.

Physiotherapy, osteopathy, and elite training—all under one roof

Depending on your diagnosis, we combine physiotherapy and manual therapy with active, targeted training. For building strength, you can optionally transition to our Medical Training Therapy (MTT), hosted in our own, functionally equipped training area right here at the clinic. Osteopathy can further enhance your treatment, especially when hip or pelvic issues are involved. Our interdisciplinary team of physiotherapists and osteopaths works closely together under one roof, ensuring seamless transitions between your treatment and training.

When to consult your doctor

Knee pain is rarely dangerous. However, you should get a medical evaluation immediately if you experience any of these signs:

  • Your knee locks or can no longer be straightened: something may be trapped in the joint.

  • Tense, rapid swelling shortly after an accident: potential bleeding into the joint.

  • A fever accompanied by a hot, swollen knee: a possible sign of a joint infection.

  • You cannot bear weight on your leg after a fall: a fracture must be ruled out.

These signs are rare. If none of them apply to you, nothing is standing in the way of your treatment with us.

Who covers the cost? Let's talk investment in your future.

Physiotherapy is fully covered by your basic health insurance with a doctor's referral, and by accident insurance or your health insurance's accident coverage after an injury.

You can book osteopathy directly without a referral; it is covered through your supplementary insurance for alternative and complementary medicine.

Whether you choose physiotherapy or osteopathy: you are always welcome as a self-paying client, with no compromise on treatment quality or time. To find out what your treatment will cost, visit Rates and Coverage.
