Massage Treatment
Massages can be tailored to the situation and performed in any position (sports). However, a good and comfortable position, usually lying down, is advantageous and actually essential. Care should be taken to prevent the person from getting cold.
The beginning of a treatment involves a detailed medical history and assessment, where the current issues are identified. Important aspects also include inspection and palpation.
During the treatment, we ensure a pleasant room ambiance with good lighting and privacy. The patient is positioned well, in line with the objectives of the massage.
Lubricants are sometimes used with gliding techniques to reduce friction on the skin, although this is not always desirable, especially with other techniques.
Stroking movements are essentially the fundamental movements of classic massage and are generally used as an introductory sequence of a treatment. The depth effect is determined by the intensity of the pressure. A fast movement with more pressure is invigorating, while a slower execution tends to be more relaxing. The effect spectrum of each technique is determined by the factors of pressure, speed, direction, and rhythm.
In classic massage, strokes are usually executed from the periphery towards the center, or from distal to proximal.
Kneading involves rolling, pressing, and lifting the tissue. Kneading can refer both to the skin (skin mobilization techniques) and the muscles, which can be kneaded across or along the fiber direction.
Rubbs and circular movements are applied to effectively target broad fiber tension in muscles (tonic tensions), localized muscle hardening (myogelosis), or lesions in the transition between muscles and tendons.
With tapping, rhythmic compressions are aimed at the underlying tissue. Tapotement is a neuro-reflective stimulation technique that can influence the sympathetic nervous system depending on the intensity and execution.
To optimize the treatment, various massage forms and techniques can be combined, depending on individual issues, symptoms, and needs.
